PNY Duo-link OU4 press

Getting files from your smartphone or tablet and over on a flash drive can be a real hassle and for most parts it requires the use of a system in the middle where you can connect both devices. That is unless you have an OTG enabled device, then it gets a lot easier as you can just plug an OTG compatible flash drive directly into your device and use it as if it was the internal memory or a card.

PNY has announced such a new flash drive and it comes with both a microUSB connector for your smart device and a USB 3.0 connector for your PC. The new PNY Duo-Link OU4 OTG USB 3.0 can achieve speeds up to 120MB/s while reading and still manage 20MB/s at writing, allowing you to transfer those files in a speedy fashion.

The drive only weighs about 2.8 grams and measures 29.05 x 15.1 x 10.25 mm and it will be available in capacities ranging from 8GB to 64GB. It is compatible with Android 4.0 and newer devices with an OTG enabled chipset and port, and it should work equally well on all normal USB devices such as Windows, Linux, or MacOS systems.

The fourth generation Duo-Link OU drive is backed by a two-year warranty from the date of purchase and we can expect a similar price to the current third generation. No word on when it will be available, but it should be shortly.

PNY Nvidia GeForce GTX 950 GPU

With Nvidia’s GTX 950 expected later this month, it’s not surprising to see that some listings and pictures of the card have started to emerge. Today we bring you the first listing for a GTX950, the ASUS STRIX GTX 950 DC2OC. As expected from the model name, the card should be quite similar to the GTX 960 Strix with an oversize DirectCUII cooler on a small PCB. There are multiple listings out now at about €240+, but we can expect the launch price to be closer to €150 to replace the 750Ti as the currently listed prices surpass those of the 960.

More interesting is the first glimpse of the GTX 950 from PNY. From the packaging, we get the usual 3 years PNY warranty along with “High-Resolution Graphics Cards” which probably means it can support 4K output. The cooler is relatively simple and we can see that the PCB is larger than that of the 750Ti and closer to the 960 though we don’t know if it’s a custom PCB. The low power nature of the 950 does betray itself as we can see that the cooler is a simple radial aluminum heatsink, likely without any heatpipes. Given that the 960 has a much beefier heatsink, the extra PCB is probably there to support more power delivery components and support the larger heatsink.

The GTX 950 is based on the GM206 with 768 Maxwell shaders on a 128bit bus with 64 TMUs and likely 32 ROPs. With performance likely to fall around the R7 370, we can expect pricing to be about the same as well. Nvidia has already cut the price on the 750Ti so the 950 should be arriving imminently.

Introduction

feature

Following on from our GTX 950 round-up article, PNY has sent a model which looks extremely promising. We have already seen that the GTX 950 range performs extremely well and the price is extremely attractive for a cheap gaming build.

The PNY GTX 950 is the cheapest GTX 950 that PNY offers and features a single fan design. This is a step away from the usual dual fan designs that PNY produce and personally I really like the subtle design on this.

This card is essentially an unmodified NVIDIA version with an improved cooling design as it features the same base and boost clock speeds as the reference model or 1024MHz base and 1188MHz boost. These speeds don’t sound that impressive, but the overclocking capability of Maxwell and the GTX 950 range, in particular, will see this overclock well into the 1400MHz range.

PNY Unveils Anarchy X DDR4 Memory

575-20150923115230

Intel’s Skylake architecture and Z170 chipset have made DDR4 an affordable proposition and no longer exclusive to the enthusiast platform. As a result, high bandwidth, DDR4 pricing dropped quite significantly in recent months and legitimately rivaled the pricing of DDR3. The advantages of DDR4 includes higher frequencies and reduced voltage. Today, PNY announced the Anarchy X DDR4 modules which comes in a variety of capacities and speeds.

The DIMMs vary between 2400MHz to 2800MHz with a CAS latency of CL16 at 1.2V and utilize high-quality ICs. On another note, the XLR8 heat spreaders look fantastic and should accompany a red and black gaming theme extraordinarily well. In terms of pricing, the 16GB (4×4) configuration has a recommend retail price of £139 including VAT. This emphasizes how affordable high-capacity memory is becoming and it will be interesting to see the prices of DDR3 as more customers migrate to Skylake.

Unfortunately, Intel’s latest offering is currently quite poor value-for-money due to supply issues but CPUs should drop in price once sales reduce and stock increases. Additionally, AMD’s Zen architecture could apply pressure on Intel to offer more attractive pricing for consumers.

What speed of memory are you currently using?

PNY AnarchyX 2800MHz DDR4 16GB (4x4GB) Quad Channel Memory Kit Review

Introduction

DSC_0016

Prior to the release of Intel’s Z170 platform, DDR4 memory prices remained extremely high compared to DDR3 equivalents and required the use of other expensive components designed primarily for professionals. Thankfully, DDR4 prices have plummeted and usually cost the same as DDR3 capacities or slightly less in some cases. So why consider DDR4? Firstly, the latest standard in computer memory operates using lower voltages and capable of reaching frequencies in excess of 3200MHz. Granted, this doesn’t make a difference in most gaming tasks, but it’s useful for rendering, video editing and other workloads. Additionally, the price variation between 2400MHz and 3000MHz is still relatively small and well worth your consideration.

For the mainstream market, most consumers buy memory kits on the basis of aesthetics. One particular example which looks absolutely fantastic is the PNY AnarchyX series and comes in a variety of speeds from 2400MHz up to 2800MHz. Today, we’ve decided to take a look at their highest frequency model and compare it to other premium kits. From a technical standpoint, the sample we received operates at 1.2V, and CAS16 which makes it an excellent choice. Given the memory’s impressive visual design, and specification, I expect it to perform rather well during our rigorous benchmarking procedure.

Packaging and Accessories

Unlike many RAM kits, the PNY AnarchyX doesn’t come in a relatively plain blister pack. The box contains an attractive render of the memory modules and outlines the key specifications. On another note, each module is sealed in an anti-static bag to eliminate any chance of electrical surges from occurring. This is a great addition which adds a premium feel.

The rear section is fairly plain and provides a more detailed look at the kit’s specifications. There’s also a number of images to inform the user of PNY’s entire product range.

A Closer Look

PNY have done a splendid job designing the heat spreaders which look unique without being too ostentatious. More specifically, the subtle PNY logo contrasts superbly with the domineering AnarchyX branding and makes for a wonderful finish. On another note, the vibrant edges and understated crossed pattern enhances the overall aesthetic design. I’m also really fond of the central red accent which adds a hint of colour to the modules. Once combined with the black PCB, this results in one of the best DDR4 visual designs I’ve seen to date!

PNY Reveals HP v250w USB Flash Drive

PNY has just launched its brand new HP v250w USB Flash Drive, which impresses with durability, reliability and impressive storage capacities. What makes this flash drive stand out among its peers is the fact that it comes with a unique, patented hook and lock design that improves its overall security. As far as looks are concerned, we’re talking about a smooth metal frame with a high-quality silver finish, which measures no more than 5.0mm x 153.8mm x 46.6mm (HWL). Storage capabilities range from 4GB to 128GB, which means that storing large HD videos or high-resolution images shouldn’t be a problem.

The carabiner hook design allows the user to attach this flash drive to keys, handbags or backpacks, and this adds a few points in the practicality department. When it comes to compatibility, the device is based on an easy plug and play system, which means that it works just fine with operating systems such as Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 or Mac OS 10.3. The HP v250w is backed by a two-year warranty from PNY, which is always nice.

Are you satisfied with the USB flash drive that you’re using right now, and if not, would you consider switching over to this PNY product?

PNY CS2211 XLR8 240GB Solid State Drive Review

Introduction

PNY_C2211-Photo-angle

Today’s review is a special one for me as it is the first time I get to review a PNY SSD. I got the XLR8 CS2211 2.5-inch gaming branded SSD on the test bench today and it will be interesting to see how well it does. The PNY CS2211 SSD is available in three capacities from 240GB over 480GB to 960GB from which I’ll be testing the 240GB model today.

PNY is no stranger in the SSD market and they created some great drives in the past for all sectors of the market, but they’re probably most known for their graphics cards. But we aren’t here to talk about graphics cards, it is about storage today. PNY has taken what they have learned from their previous drives and created the XLR8 branded CS2211 drive, and it shows in the performance ratings.

PNY_C2211-Photo-bottom

The drive is rated for a sequential performance of up to 565 MB/s reading and 540MB/s writing, which is about as good as it gets on the SATA3 interface. The random input-output performance is equally impressive with 95K IOPS ratings for both reading and writing. Those are at least the ratings for the larger models and the small 240GB version can’t keep fully up with that. It still comes with impressive ratings despite being a little slower ,with an 87K IOPS rating and a drop in sequential writes to 470MB/s.

It is no surprise that the drive has such good ratings as it is built with only the best components. It utilizes 15nm Toshiba MLC NAND and a Phison PS3110-S10 controller aided by 256MB DDR3 cache package

PNY_C2211-Photo-top

PNY gave the CS2211 the XLR8 styling as a gaming product, but the design has been toned down a bit in comparison to the previous XLR8 drive design. It is a beautiful design that makes the drive stand out and also makes in an optimal candidate for systems that proudly shows what components they are made off.

There are a lot of products that get a ‘gaming’ label in order to appeal to that market segment, but the CS2211 does deserve this label. It is a perfect gaming drive thanks to its high IOPS performance on top of the high sequential performance. You’ll copy fast, load fast, and should experience even less loading times in-game.

PNY_C2211-Photo-connector

Feature wise we find the basic Trim and SMART capabilities, but the CS2211 also comes with background garbage collection, end-to-end data protection, and error correction code for up to 120 bits per 2K sector. Overall, we see a drive that presents itself very well and PNY agrees with a 2 million hours mean time before failure rating and a full 4-year warranty.

PNY_C2211-Photo-side

The 7mm slim drive is perfect for usage in both desktop and notebook systems where it also will fit well in 9.5mm drive bays thanks to the included adapter bracket. The SSD doesn’t feature the DevSleep function that I really like to see in drives, but that isn’t a deal breaker and most gamers don’t want power saving features, they want pure and raw performance which the CS2211 delivers.

PNY_C2211-Photo-adapter

Aside from the beautiful brand sticker on the top, the drive is built with a standard 2-piece snap-together enclosure that holds the PCB and doesn’t require any screws that could loosen themselves over time in high-vibration environments.

PNY_C2211-Photo-open up

The PCB itself is a two-thirds length one with a total of eight NAND chips distributed over the front and back. The Phison PS3110 S10C controller sits firmly in the middle of the PCB. Next to it we also see the Nanya DDR3 cache chip that helps the drive to achieve the great speeds that it can.

Packaging and Accessories

The PNY XLR8 CS2211 solid state drive came packed in a simple black box with the PNY logo on the side.

PNY_C2211-Photo-box

Inside the box is the SSD itself as well as a 9.5mm adapter for usage in notebooks and laptops designed for the 9.5mm thick drives. By adding the adapter to the drive, you make sure that it’s firmly seated in the system and doesn’t rattle around.

PNY_C2211-Photo-box content

Normally you’d get the drive in a more colourful wrapping and with an included registration key for the Acronis True Image cloning software. Review samples like this one sometimes come with a few things missing because the company is in a hurry to get the drives to us so we can test them for you – and they know that we don’t need the extras.

Introduction

PNY_CS2211_RAID-Photo-top

I often read the comment ‘that would be awesome with two SSDs in a RAID setup’ or ‘I would love two of these new SSDs for a RAID setup’ in our comment sections, both on the page itself and on our social media pages. So I grab the chance to do some RAID setup tests whenever I have the possibility. Today I’m taking two of PNY’s XLR8 CS2211 SSDs with 240GB for a test run under RAID conditions.

With two disks at my disposal, my options are limited to just RAID 1, RAID 0, Recovery and the normal single disk modes. Each mode has its ups and downs and there really isn’t one that is better than the others, it comes down to your personal needs. Whether you need capacity, redundancy, speed or a just the baseline, that is your choice.

PNY_CS2211_RAID-Photo-bottom

The PNY XLR8 series is aimed at gamers and gamers want the best. We’ve already seen in the single drive review how well the drive does with sequential and especially random operations. Today we’re going to find out how well Phison’s S10C SSD controller does in a RAID setup.

PNY GeForce GTX 950 XLR8 OC Gaming Graphics Card Review

Introduction

PNY GeForce GTX 950 XLR8 OC Gaming Graphics Card Review

The overwhelming majority of media headlines have fixated on NVIDIA’s latest flagship graphics card, the GTX 1080. While this incredible creation is an innovative piece of hardware based on a new 16nm FinFet manufacturing process, it’s still extremely expensive especially if you reside in the United Kingdom. As a result, existing Maxwell solutions are tailored towards the mass market and remain an attractive proposition provided you’re willing to accept the older architecture. Thankfully, affordable options like the GTX 950 offer good performance numbers and act as a gateway to PC gaming if you’re unsure about making the switch from traditional consoles. Typically, custom variants from various AIB vendors appear relatively soon after the core’s initial launch. This makes the PNY’s GTX 950 XLR8 OC an oddity because it arrives at a time when partners are focusing on Pascal.

Nevertheless, it’s always welcome to analyse a custom graphics card which features a hefty factory overclock. More specifically, the PNY GTX 950 XLR8 OC features a core clock of 1152MHz and 1342MHz boost. This is a significant increase from the default 1026MHz and 1190MHz specification. On another note, this particular version has an effective memory speed of 7200MHz and consumes 90 watts. As you might expect, the product supports a number of NVIDIA inventions such as GPU Boost 2.0, Dynamic Super Resolution and much more. Priced at a mere £134.99, how much performance is actually possible on such a tight budget?

Packing and Accessories

The graphics card comes in an attractive box sporting an eye-catching decal. Furthermore, the XLR8 branding is rather imposing and emphasises the unit’s overclocking credentials.

DSC_0113

On the opposite side, there are details of the GPU’s comprehensive 3-year warranty, PNY’s company background and social media presence. This section is rather understated and contrasts with the front cover extremely well. Ideally, I’d prefer to see stronger adhesive because the tape holding the middle portion uncouples too easily. Saying that, this is a minor complaint in the grand scheme of things.

DSC_0114

In terms of accessories, the product comes with a driver’s disk, installation guide and VGA to DVI adapter. This is useful for those who are currently using an older monitor and want to enjoy improved frame-rates via a modern graphics card.

pny flash drive (1)

Just in case you’re looking for a lightweight, simple-looking USB flash drive that offers generous storage capacities as well as USB 3.0 transfer speeds, PNY has just unveiled the HP x765w flash memory drive. As far as looks are concerned, this product comes with a black and white monochrome design, while its ergonomic body and anti-fingerprint finish ensure protection from scratches and finger stains respectively. The lidless body features a retractable connector and a one-hand slide mechanism that guarantees quick and easy operation, while a loop hole at the base of the drive allows it to be attached to car keys, bags or wallets without any issues.

pny flash drive (2)

With a weight of just 8.8g, you’ll definitely need to bind this thing to heavier objects, otherwise you’ll probably just forget about it in your pocket. Available storage capacities range from 16GB all the way up to 128GB, all versions benefitting from USB 3.0 transmission, which enables ten times faster read and write speeds when compared to USB 2.0. Obviously, computers equipped with USB 2.0 ports will also support the HP x765w. And speaking of compatibility, this product works just fine with Windows 7, 8, 10 and Mac OS: 10. 3 and above. The HP x765w is accompanied by a limited warranty of 2 years, and it is also quite affordable, as the 32GB version is currently priced at about £12.00.

HP

PNY is regarded as one of the leading companies in flash memory products and has an excellent reputation. Recently, PNY entered into an agreement with HP to manufacture their latest storage device, the x765w.  The HP x765w supports the USB 3.0 protocol which provides ten times faster speeds than USB 2.0. The drives will be available in a number of capacities ranging from 16GB to 128GB and come with a 2-year warranty as standard. According to the press release, the pen drives feature an ergonomic design which makes it easier to grip and has an anti-fingerprint finish. This should prevent the product from looking slightly worse for wear after hefty use.

HP

The HP x765w weighs 8.8g, measures 10mm x 21mm x 55mm (HxWxL) and has an integrated strap hole. When it comes to performance, the basic 16GB drive can deliver a maximum read speed of 20MB/s and 70MB/s write while the 32GB-128GB models are guaranteed to offer a minimum 30MB/s read and 75MB/s write.  As you can see, this isn’t the fastest set of speeds available today but HP/PNY appear to be targeting a very competitive price point. Unfortunately, this isn’t known as of yet. Personally, it seems an odd decision to release a USB 3.0 drive when USB 3.1 is becoming more popular. Although, it’s a solid product and will be useful to certain PC users.

PNY

PNY’s XLR8 range revolves around the highest quality of components and factory overclocks in the company’s repertoire. Previous models such as the PNY GTX 960 XLR8 OC performed admirably and featured a really attractive shroud design. The latest product is towards the higher-end and based on the GTX 1080. The PNY GTX 1080 XLR8 OC combines a reference PCB with a custom cooling solution. Additionally, the graphics card has a factory overclocked 1708MHz core, 1848MHz boost and 8GB GDDR5X memory running at 10,000MHz.

69b

The product’s cooling apparatus has a split aluminium fin-stack heatsink and 8mm thick nickel-plated copper heatpipes which effectively manage the thermal loads. Also, the heatsink is ventilated by three 80mm fans with superb airflow. As expected, the fans switch off during scenarios when the GPU isn’t doing much. In terms of power requirements, the GPU has a single 8-pin PCI-E which should be more than enough to leverage maximum performance. Connectivity-wise, the PNY GTX 1080 XLR8 OC comes with three DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0b and a dual-link DVI-D. According to PNY, the graphics card will retail for a price of $659.99 in the USA. This is a reasonable price given the factory overclock and I’m hoping to get hold of a review sample in the next week.

PNY Announces CS2030 Series M.2 NVMe SSDs

pny-cs2030-series-m-2-nvme-ssd

In recent years, NVMe and PCIe drives have been the ones pushing the performance limits. Moving beyond the limits set by ACHI and SATA, the new drives offer dramatically improved performance. To supplement their mainstream SATA SSDs, PNY has announced the new NVMe M.2 CS2030 Series of solid state drives.

As we’ve come to expect of most NVMe PCIe SSDs being released these days, the M.2 2280 form factor is being used. The CS2030 offers up a total of 4x PCIe 3.0 lanes for a total of 32 Gbit/s of bandwidth. For the controller, PNY has chosen the Phison PS5007 and paired it with MLC NAND. This allows for sequential transfer speeds of up to 2,750 MB/s reads and 1,500 MB/s sequential writes. 4K random access performance is rated at up to 210,000 IOPS reads, and 215,000 IOPS writes.

Coming in both 240 GB and 480 GB capacities, the new drives are expected to be priced at $179.99 and $329.99 for the 240 GB and 480 GB models respectively. While they are a premium compared to SATA drives, for those that want the extra performance, they are likely well worth it. They are also backed by a 3-year warranty as well. It will be interesting to see how these drives fare against the current match of NVMe M.2 SSDs.

PNY Launches CS1311b Budget SSDs

PNY CS1311b 1

After Samsung first introduced 3D NAND several years ago, the rest of the industry has finally caught up. Starting in 2016 and into 2017, many SSD manufacturers have started to update their lineups from planar NAND to 3D NAND and PNY is the latest to join in. The company has just announced their new CS1311b series of budget entry-level SSDs featuring 3D TLC NAND. This follows up on the vanilla CS1311 which uses planar TLC NAND.

Coming in the standard 7 mm-thick 2.5-inch form factor, the CS1311b is the standard SATA III SSD. Featuring just the 128 GB and 256 GB capacities, the drives use Micron’s 3D TLC NAND. The 128 GB drive manages up to 510 MB/s reads and 410 MB/s writes, while 4K speeds are 42,000 IOPS and 82,000 IOPS for random reads and writes respectively. For the 256 GB model, we have up to 560 MB/s sequential reads and 510 MB/s writes, while 4K speeds are 80,000 IOPS and 81,000 IOPS for random reads and writes respectively

PNY CS1311b SSD 2

As you can see from the image, the SATA form factor is pretty overkill for budget SSDs these days. The PCB with all the working parts takes up less than half of the enclosure. While PNY has not revealed pricing, it will likely come in where the CS1311 currently sits. I suspect that we are seeing a controller update as well from the Phison S10 controller to the Phsion S11, both single core designs,  due to the requirement for LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) 3D NAND support.

PNY GeForce GTX 1080 Ti XLR8 OC Video Card Details Surface

Details about PNY’s GeForce GTX 1080 Ti XLR8 Gaming OC video card are now available, showing the company’s custom design for NVIDIA’s latest generation flagship video card. The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti XLR8 Gaming OC uses the XLR8 triple fan design and is a considerably longer video card than most other manufacturer’s designs at 313 mm or 12.36-inches long with a dual-slot height. The PCB itself underneath is the reference NVIDIA design similar to the Founder’s Edition model, having a 7+2 phase VRM for the CPU+memory. The heatsink cooler appears to be fully nickel plated and uses a four-heatpipe design with two sets of aluminum fin arrays.

The PNY GeForce GTX 1080 Ti XLR8 Gaming OC comes out of the box with a base core clock of 1531 MHz and a boost clock of 1645 MHz. It has 11GB of 11Gbps GDDR5X on a 352-bit memory interface with a bandwidth of 484 GB/sec.  The card uses the standard GTX 1080 Ti 6-pin and 8-pin power connector towards the front. For display output, it has three DisplayPort 1.4 connectors with one HDMI 2.0b connector for a maximum resolution of 7680 x 4320 @ 60Hz. The product render shows a DVI connector in the rear IO but this feature is not listed in the official product specifications sheet of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti XLR8 OC PNY part number VCGGTX1080T11XGPB-OC video card.  Plus if it uses the reference Founder’s Edition GTX 1080 Ti PCB then it definitely lacks a DVI port.

Introduction

PNY GTX 1070 XLR8 OC Gaming 8GB Graphics Card Review

Not all graphics cards are created equally, such as this GeForce GTX 1070 from PNY. It takes the stock card and makes it even faster than before. PNY is well-known for their premium quality aftermarket graphics cards, and the XLR8 OC Gaming delivers faster clock speeds, a powerful cooling solution, a slick design, and hopefully fantastic performance too.

The stock GTX 1070 delivers a 1506/1683 stock and boost graphics clock, while the new card from PNY ups that to an impressive 1607/1797 MHz, quite an improvement, and one that should no doubt deliver improved performance. OF course, extra power is required to do so, with the card pulling a 150W TDP, and while it still uses the same 8-pin connector, the factory overclock does mean more heat, so that triple fan cooling solution should help keep things nice and cool, even when pushing the card to its limits.

Equipped with all the latest features you would expect from a 10xx series card, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 is a robust chipset, so let’s jump in, take a closer look at what it has to offer, then fire it up on our test bench!

Goat Drive

PNY Technologies has officially announced the limited edition HP v231w USB flash drive to coincide with the Chinese New Year. What 2015, the Year of the Goat, will do for Goat Simulator, I do not know. But what I do know is that PNY has released this specially designed flash drive crafted with gold housing and finished with electronic plated durable metallic casing makes HP v231w a unique and high-quality flash drive.

The USB 2.0 drive doesn’t just carry your files, it also kinda protects them with the durable casing that is both water and dust-proof. There should be a right fit for everyone with capacities ranging from 16 to 64GB.

Goat Drive 2

The 4.5 gram light HP v231w measures 4.5 x 12.2 x 34.6 mm and will be released as a limited edition that is HP compatible and branded. Support is listed for Windows 2000/ XP / Vista, 7, 8, Mac OS: 10.3 and above, but I can not see why anything with USB port shouldn’t be able to use it. It comes backed by a two-year warranty within the date of purchase.

PNY XLR8 GTX 1080 Ti Graphics Card Review

PNY XLR8 GTX 1080 Ti

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card series has been with us for some time now, and that means we’ve got plenty of aftermarket products from many of the top gaming brands around the world. The latest we have in the eTeknix office is the PNY GeForce GTX 1080 Ti XLR8 gaming OC graphics card. This new card comes with a reasonable factory overclock, taking the graphics cards boost speed up to 1645 MHz, and it keeps all this performance in check with its new triple fan cooler and a full-length aluminium back plate.

This isn’t the craziest GTX 1080 Ti we have seen to date, but it does seem like a big upgrade in terms of cooling performance over the reference model and that means it should run cooler, quieter, and harder for longer while you are gaming. This is especially true since PNY say the new cooler performance three times better than their previous generation cooler. The only downside to this design is but it doesn’t appear to have a 0 RPM operation mode, a feature that is often lacking on PNY graphics cards; at least on the ones we have tested in the past.

Fast and Silent

“The latest addition to the ultimate gaming platform, this card is packed with extreme gaming horsepower, next-gen 11 GBps GDDR5X memory, and a massive 1GB frame buffer. PNY’s GeForce GTX 1080 Ti XLR8 Gaming Edition offers fast performance and silent operation.” – PNY

Specifications

Obviously, this graphics card includes all the features you would expect of a 1080 Ti. It still features 3584 CUDA cores, 11GB of VRAM, SLI support, and much more. Those who are eager to run the cards in SLI will be happy to know that it’s a strict deal slot design, so it shouldn’t conflict in motherboards that have tighter spacings.

PNY Accidentally Publishes Full Specs and Price of RTX 2080 Ti

More Details Ahead of Schedule

With NVIDIA preparing to launch their next generation 20-series video cards in the next few days, leaks are bound to happen. Information leaked which should be taken with a healthy grain of salt. However, sometimes even the official outlets make a mistake, giving readers an official look into information before the actual unveiling.

Case in point is PNY, the US-based NVIDIA partner who has listed their RTX 2080 Ti Overclocked XLR8 Edition graphics card landing page ahead of the launch.

This not only gives us a clear glimpse as to what their custom RTX 2080 Ti looks like, but what clock speeds, specs and pricing it will carry. After the leaks earlier from Baidu forums and VideoCardz.com, this serves as confirmation about several of the known stats.

What Specs Does the PNY RTX 2080 Ti XLR8 Gaming OC Edition Have?

According to the website, the RTX 2080 Ti GPU does indeed have 4352 CUDA cores as rumoured. It also has 11GB of GDDR6 memory on a 352-bit memory bus. However, now we know that the core clock is around 1350MHz. This is of course the factory OC’d version, so it will be higher than the reference clock. PNY’s XLR8 Gaming Edition also boosts up to 1545MHz.

Since it is a custom card and is overclocked, the TDP is also considerably higher than expected at 285W. Which is probably why PNY packs it with a triple-fan cooler. The actual card itself measures 1.73 x 12.36 x 5.04 inches and is a dual-slot card solution.

PNY Accidentally Publishes Full Specs and Price of RTX 2080 Ti

How Much is the PNY RTX 2080 Ti XLR8 Gaming OC Edition?

In terms of pricing, this pre-overclocked version is listed at $1,000 USD. In comparison, the GTX 1080 Ti had a $699 USD launch price. The highest priced custom GTX 1080 Ti right now are priced at around $749~$799 USD. Needless to say, that is a considerable jump in price for the segment.

PNY Accidentally Publishes Full Specs and Price of RTX 2080 Ti

What About The RTX 2080?

There is more than one new video card listed on their website of course. There is also the RTX 2080 8GB XLR8 Gaming OC video card, which costs $200 less. Like the XLR8 RTX 2080 Ti OC, this is custom and pre-overclocked, so it costs more than the standard model. Also like the RTX 2080 Ti, it has triple fans, although the shroud design is different.

PNY puts the core clock of this version at 1515 MHz with a boost of up to 1710MHz. Surprisingly, it has a similarly high 285W TDP like the 2080 Ti XLR8 Gaming OC model.

PNY Officially Announces RTX 20-Series Video Card Lineup

Six RTX 20-Series Cards to Choose From

It took a few more extra days since its unveiling for PNY to publish their RTX 20-Series landing page. This of course follows after an early leak listing the full specs and pricing of their lineup before the Gamescom reveal.  The lineup includes two different RTX 2080 Ti models and four RTX 2080 Ti variants.

What Can Users Expect from PNY’s RTX 20-Series?

At the top of the stack sits their flagship XLR8 variants. These come pre-overclocked, with the RTX 2080 Ti version having three fans. The RTX 2080 XLR8 version on the other hand, is available in either triple fan or dual-fan version. Both have the same MSRP listed on their website. These XLR8 units also have RGB LED lighting integrated on the shroud.

There is also a non XLR8 dual fan RTX 2080 which lacks the RGB LED lighting. Although it is listed as having the same clock speed as the XLR8 dual fan and triple fan version at 1515MHz (1710MHz boost).

Lastly, PNY also offers a rear-exhaust version of the RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080. These are dual-slot units with a single 80mm blower style fan, ideal for systems where dumping hot air inside is not advisable.

How Much Are These PNY Video Cards?

The RTX 2080 Blower and RTX 2080 dual fan have an MSRP of $859 USD. This is actually the price of the GTX 1080 Ti XLR8 Gaming OC video card right now on PNY’s website.

Meanwhile, the XLR8 Gaming OC dual and triple fan versions cost $10 more at $869. The RTX 2080 Ti XLR8 Gaming OC on the other hand commands $1,299, much higher than the initial $1000 price leak. The blower style RTX 2080 Ti costs $50 less at $1249 USD. These prices are also reflected in other retailers such as NewEgg.com, which offer the cards for pre-order.

PNY Gen4 PCIe Drive and More Showcased at Computex 2019

PNY Gen4

There are all kinds of fun stuff on display at this years Computex. However, one of the hottest tickets has to be the Ryzen Gen 3, The X570 motherboards, and the PCIe Gen 4 capabilities they bring. A few brands have had a new drive to show us, and PNY is no exception.

CS4040

The new drive is their latest high-end NVMe drive, and features the current favourite Phison controller. It’s capable of 4800 MB/s read, and 4000 MB/s write, which is obviously a big step up from the current crop of high-end drives. It’ll be available in 500GB up to 2TB, and which we don’t have a price, don’t expect it to be cheap. This is bleeding edge consumer storage, and it will come with a premium.

CS3030

On the current Gen3 format, you can find their flagship XLR8 drive. This is no slouch either, with 3500 MB/s Read and 3000 MB/s write.

Portable Storage

Their portable storage range was on display. Now, not all of these are brand new and some are just updates. However, we do love their Type-C Pro Elite SSD. Ultra-portable storage with 880 MB/s read and 900 MB/s write. As well as their superb Elite-X U3 microSD (A1 Rated), both ideal for content creators on the go.

Gaming

Now, there’s nothing “new” to the market here, as Nvidia GTX and RTX is already well known. However, PNY has some very competitive cards when it comes to price and performance. One that did catch my eye is their new GTX 1650 4GB. Sure, not the most exciting card ever, but as we’ve seen, they’re bloody good value. The same is true of their new RTX 2060, a nice entry point for the enthusiast PC gamer.

PNY Launch Passively Cooled Nvidia Quadro RTX 8000 & 6000

NVIDIA Pulls the Plug on GeForce Partner Program

The mere concept of a passively cooled workstation graphics card seems, quite frankly, bizarre. While admittedly not unheard of, as you probably know (presuming you own just a gaming graphics card), cooling is a key factor in their design. Put simply, if you decide to run your AMD 5700 XT passively (merely for example) you’re probably going to have a bad time.

Following two new listings on PNY’s official website, however, the graphics card manufacturer has announced that (somehow) it has produced a passively cooled Nvidia Quadro RTX 8000 and 6000 graphics card.

What is passively cooled? Well, just in case you don’t know, its when the item doesn’t have a dedicated cooling fan/s. In other words, it cools itself ‘passively’ within the ambient temperature.

PNY Release Passively Cooled Quadro RTX 8000 and 6000 GPUs

So, I suppose the biggest question is how have they achieved this? Well, the short version is by making the heat spreaders larger (while somehow keeping the 2-slot design) and also (as you probably suspected) by cutting the performance back a little.

Taking the Quadro RTX 8000, for example, the boost clock speed has been dropped by 8% to 1,620 MHz. In addition, the base clocks have also been dropped by about 12% while the memory clock has also been reduced from 14Gbps to 13Gbps.

Notable, but not exactly huge drops in numbers.

What Do We Think?

Presumably, despite the passive design, these would still require to reside in a system with decent airflow. The Quadro RTX 8000 is, after all, a 250W GPU. In other words, it probably wouldn’t be a good idea to just shove one in a chassis. Not, at least, without at least a couple of really good intake and exhaust fans.

The fact that PNY has made this possible, however, is simply remarkable. More so the fact that the compromises won’t dent its performance by any particularly huge factor.

With price tags of $6,000 (for the 8000) and $4000 (for the 6000), however, I think I’ll be needing a bit more spare change before I could try one of these out for myself.

You can check out the official product websites via the link here!

What do you think? Are you impressed with these designs? – Let us know in the comments!

XLR8 Gaming EPIC-X RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Memory Review

PNY has over 30 years of experience in the memory market, so it’s fair to say that they really know what they’re doing! As a brand, they’ve often been associated with some pretty extreme and high-end solutions, both for gaming and professional hardware. With that in mind, today, I’ll be taking a look at their latest gaming memory! However, rather than just being from PNY, it comes from their gaming-focused sub-brand “XLR8” which is pronounced “accelerate”, obviously. So PNY’s maturity and knowledge, but acting cool with its baseball cap on sideways and some RGB shades… sounds good to me!

XLR8 Gaming EPIC-X RGB

The new (PNY) XLR8 Gaming EPIC-X RGB does sound like it’s trying pretty hard to be cool with the buzz words here. However, it’s ticking all the right boxes for the modern PC gaming enthusiast. Blacked out aluminium heat spreaders, extensive RGB lighting customisation, a wide range of available speeds and capacities, overclocking support, and well… that’s really all we need. Plus, I’m lucky here, as I got the 3600 MHZ 32GB (2 x 16GB) kit, which is literally the fastest and biggest kit in this range, so the performance should be pretty fantastic. For those of you who dig your RGB, you’ll be glad to hear there are no external cables required, and it’ll work with Asus Aura Sync, Gigabyte RGB Fusion, MSI Mystic Light Sync and ASRock Polychrome Sync software; it may work with others, but these are at least varified.

Features

  • Epic-X RGB
  • Designed for Overclocking
  • Low Latency
  • XMP 2.0 Support
  • 1.35v
  • DDR4
  • Available in 2133 to 3600MHz
  • Available in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB Kits
  • Part Number MD32GK2D4360018XRGB
